Eliminating the front license plates and stickers from vehicles would save, obviously, one half of the current state expense for these items. I'm not suggesting a reduction in the registration fee(s), but simply do away with the front plate and sticker. If memory serves me correctly, Virginia is one of only 4 to 5 states to use a front plate. MD and DC do, but all our other neighboring states and beyond do not. Having two plates for one vehicle makes no sense, the use one of the plates on an unregistered vehicle or affixing one set of the sti

Do not give state vehicles to college administrators, state administrators or others. They do not need them. Use state vehicles only for job-related special needs.

Raising the Gasoline Tax, especially when we saw $4 gas this summer and the economy is bad, is admittedly a difficult sell to the populus. But this is not because it doesn't make sense--it is because our politicians lack the fortitude to educate the general public on the necessity of this and to portray to the public that the funds can be trusted to be collected and used by the government efficiently. However, raising the gas tax is the only straightforward method to raise the dollars needed for infrastructure projects--the same projects that the people who drive the most (and t (5 votes) |

The car accidents on major highway during morning and evening rush hours cause delay to a lot of people. That is the time wasted because of the direct result of a few persons unattentive driving. I propose that we increase the demerit points deducted for causing the accidents to six points and increasing the fines to those ticketed while being distracted. I am seeing more and more people drinking coffee, reading news paper and talking on the cell phones with out hands free devices. Just an idea. (4 votes) |

Virginia needs to resurrect the Transportation Authorities. They were struck down because they were considered unelected taxing bodies and therefore unconstitutional. Therefore, remake them as one of the following: (5 votes) |

It may be too late know but if VA were to raise the gas tax slowly as gas prices continue to fall, we could increase revenue. It should only be raised by a fraction of the price decrease. For example, if the state average price falls 10 cents in a week, increase the gas tax by 5 cents. Residents would still see prices fall AND we would still recieve tax revenues. This money should be directly earmarked to benefit the city/county that it is collected in. For regions (i.e Hampton Roads, Northern VA, Richmond Area, etc), however, the money should benefit the region as a whole. (9 votes) |

The Hampton Roads transportation issues can be solved through a cooperative effort between all area cities on an extensive train based mass transit system that ties all of the cities together with stops at every major economic/business center in each city. Further mass transit capabilities can be added through alternative fuel based HRT buses. The funding for the construction of the train system could be a cooperative tax between the cities of 3% on all consumer purchases, with the revenues going into a stable interest generating fund dedicated to constr (4 votes) |

Maybe you don't personally want to ever buy a hybrid or gas-electric VOLT or other atlernative vehicle. But if OTHER people switch to alternative fuel vehicles, the demand for gas will go down. You don't have to change your car personally to benefit from a reduction in the number of cars running on gasoline overall. I don't believe in man-made global warming, but I AM TIRED OF SENDING HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO OUR ENEMIES and funding hostile action against ourselves. (7 votes) |
