More Profit from Personalized License Plates

Given the large number of personalized license plates one sees on Virginia's roads, it seems this service might not be priced as high as the market would bear.  DMV generally implements and manages fees for services which have been legislatively determined; it seldom has to determine the market value of a service.  In this matter, it could use some expert help.  It should be a simple matter for an economics professor at a state university to work with DMV as a class project to set the price for the service that maximizes state revenue. <!

New Car Inspection Waiver

I believe the annual safety inspection is a good idea but on new cars is it really worth the time and effort? For the small fee the state gets combined with the time wasted for the owner I think it would be perfectly acceptable to allow new cars to go at least 2 years without an inspection.

To keep it simple just allow new car dealers to affix a 2 year inspection sticker on new cars only.

Out of Control Trucker Drivers

Over the past 5 years I have witnessed some truckers on 295 driving very unsafely. I have called the state police on several occasions to complain about truckers that I witnessed driving recklessly. They basically told me to stay out of their path......WHAT? I witnessed truckers riding cars bumpers, pulling into lanes forcing cars and trucks out of the way and excessive speeding. How many truck accidents has 295 had over the past 5 years?

Public/Private Solutions for Transportation

I think that the state needs to look into utilizing public/private partnerships for transportation solutions. Better yet, utilize majority private solutions. The Jordan Bridge for example, in Chesapeake, is going to be shut down because the City cannot afford the maintenance for the deteriorating bridge. There are no plan or money available to replace the bridge. Therefore the region loses a vital transportation link. The Jordan Bridge was built originally designed, built, and paid for by a private source.

Limited Truck usage 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

The Virgnia Assembly should inact a law restricting the use of Virginia's highways to CARS only from 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. during rush hour to limit the number of fatalities and/or accidents and dagerous driving that occurs douring those times because of Commerical vehicles.

Tractor Trailer Toll

VDOT needs to start accepting tolls from truck drivers at each weigh station.  I cannot count the times I have seen our roads destroyed or misused by the trucks of today.  It is time that each truck is to pay a toll for each poung, ton, etc of weight it is hauling, and be held responsible for any damage his/her vehicle may cause on our roadways.  With all the talk of tolling the tax payers of Virginia, this would be a great way to tax those who are out of this state but use our roads frequently for their own benefit each year.

Bridge Advertising

With the Commonwealth desperately trying to find ways to fund transportation projects throughout the state I propose this idea. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) should develop an advertising arm run totally by VDOT and the profits shared by them and local municipalities to use for public transportation programs to help the Elderly and People with Disabilities in their areas.

State Inspection Stickers

Many localities have chosen to do away with their county windshield stickers.  They were/are a pain to put on and a pain to take off. It is time to do the same with the annual inspection sticker. Most inspection stations can't get them on straight and leave a mess when they take them off. Instead, place two small stickers with the month and year at the bottom of the license plate (the same as the registration expiration stickers on the top of the plate).  No more window stickers!

Bio-diesel fuel for state vehicles

We are a small company located in Norfolk VA and we sell biodiesel processors that convert used vegetable oil into biodiesel fuel that can be used to run in ANY type of diesel equipment/vehicle.  The state has the resources of used oil and should convert any state vehicles into a biodiesel running car.  Biodiesel, on average can be made for under a dollar a gallon and therefore the savings in fuel costs could be spent on other projects for the state.
