The Department of Motor Vehicles assigns Demerit Points when you commit a traffic violation. From the DMV Website: "Different violations carry different point assignments, depending on the seriousness of the offense. For example, you will receive three demerit points if you make an improper U-turn. However, you will receive six demerit points if you speed 20 miles per hour or more above the posted speed limit. Demerit points remain valid two years from the date you commit an offense."

Under Virginia law, a motor scooter with an engine that has a displacement larger than 50 cubic centimeters must be titled as a Motorcycle. DMV staff need better training on this. We had to go to 3 different DMV office locations before we found a DMV office willing to title the 250cc Scooter as a Motorcycle. Please give better training to DMV staff. (5 votes) |

Given the large number of personalized license plates one sees on Virginia's roads, it seems this service might not be priced as high as the market would bear. DMV generally implements and manages fees for services which have been legislatively determined; it seldom has to determine the market value of a service. In this matter, it could use some expert help. It should be a simple matter for an economics professor at a state university to work with DMV as a class project to set the price for the service that maximizes state revenue. <! (13 votes) |
