A new mode of transportation is in use by the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center’s (WWRC) Physical Plant Services (PPS) Department; 3-wheel industrial tricycles. It is frequently necessary for PPS staff to traverse the WWRC campus to inspect daily maintenance work, construction projects and review facility issues. Since a number of vehicles within the PPS fleet are approaching 20 years of age with even older models already retired due to increased maintenance costs, and considering the current operating budget, it was determined to try a new m

Raising the Gasoline Tax, especially when we saw $4 gas this summer and the economy is bad, is admittedly a difficult sell to the populus. But this is not because it doesn't make sense--it is because our politicians lack the fortitude to educate the general public on the necessity of this and to portray to the public that the funds can be trusted to be collected and used by the government efficiently. However, raising the gas tax is the only straightforward method to raise the dollars needed for infrastructure projects--the same projects that the people who drive the most (and t (5 votes) |

Virginia needs to resurrect the Transportation Authorities. They were struck down because they were considered unelected taxing bodies and therefore unconstitutional. Therefore, remake them as one of the following: (5 votes) |

It may be too late know but if VA were to raise the gas tax slowly as gas prices continue to fall, we could increase revenue. It should only be raised by a fraction of the price decrease. For example, if the state average price falls 10 cents in a week, increase the gas tax by 5 cents. Residents would still see prices fall AND we would still recieve tax revenues. This money should be directly earmarked to benefit the city/county that it is collected in. For regions (i.e Hampton Roads, Northern VA, Richmond Area, etc), however, the money should benefit the region as a whole. (9 votes) |

Many states only require motor vehicles to use a single license plate to operate on public streets. Using two license plates doesn’t seem to be an issue of either public safety or police identification in these states. Therefore, why can’t Virginia reduce its cost of license plates by 50% by only requiring a single vehicle license plate? (10 votes) |

Could we consider having 10 second mini spots run hourly on all mediums to (re) educate the public and especially the foreign community what the proper rules of driving in this country are. And while I am on this topic how about eliminating reciprocity for foreign drivers with an international license and make everyone take a test before operating a motor vehicle on our roads. As to my original thought it should have a fantastic impact on statewide safety records and reduce loss of property and lives. (6 votes) |

Is it so hard to build a neighborhood so people can actually walk, or bike to things? Schools. Libraries. grocery stores. My biggest gripe this time of year is how close students can actually live to a school and not be able to walk or bike there, because a safe convient route, for walking, was not planned on when the school or neighborhood was built.
currently we live in a neighborhood where 2 bus loads of kids live close enough to walk or bike, but none of them can. (11 votes) |
