Holiday Time Off

Christmas and New Year's Day are both on Thursday this year.  Those 2 days should be the only paid time off for the state's employees.  Do not give the 2 Fridays as paid time off.  If an employee wants to take Friday off, then they can use vacation time.

This is a fiscally responsible approach to use my tax dollars.

I mentioned this to Gov. Kaine personally when he visited VB a couple months ago.  He said the state usually followed what private practice did for holiday time.  I responded that private practice is spending their own money, not the taxpayers' money.

Holiday Time

My suggestion will cut spending by $24M, which just happens to equal 2 days of state payroll according to Debbie Scott in Senator Frank Wagner’s office.

Time off

and how much money would this save the state compared to many other issue on this board.  Before you make a suggestion like this at least give us a dollar value on the savings to the taxpayers by doing this as compared to getting rid of something that is truely not needed.

Time off

A lot of state offices close early the day before a holiday.  This time off is not necessary, closing for the holiday should be sufficant.  Regardless of the actually tax dollar savings, it is common sense.  If state offices have the ability to have all this extra time off, then maybe they are overstaffed, and all these layoffs are a long time overdue.  If they are busy, they should be open to serve the citizens.  I do no work for the state but work with many state offices, and I have found that most of them are way overstaffed, employing three people to to the job of one.

Time off

I'm sure there are state offices as you've described; however, there are some departments that are NOT overstaffed and have a very unbalanced workload. So some extra time off is well deserved for a lot of employees. How about aiming your comments at the mind-boggling amount of money that is wasted with the unnecessary processes and requirements. If the public knew just how much money is spent and wasted, they wouldn't waste their time with petty comments.
