In order to:
1. help keep Virginia Hunting related revenue in Virginia
2. bring out-of-state Hunting related revenue into Virginia
3. have better contol over the ever increasing populations of Deer and Coyotes
4. provide an additional day to help intoduce our youth to Hunting and it's associated conservation efforts
... It's way past time to finally legalize Sunday Hunting in Virginia !!!

Deer population in Northern Va
I hunt primarily in Faquier,Prince William and Loundoun counties in Northen Va. In the recent years with the construction boom that has swept through our area we now have more deer in our back yards than in our woods. The deer are losing there habitat at a rapid pace, and with population growth on the rise each year this in now becoming a growing problem for our deer herds. As a avid hunter I feel I need to take a stand on these issues, such as over population and gaming laws in Va.The VDGIF has implemented a couple of programs that have not had the results we so desperately need. With the growing number of whitetails combined with the effects of loss of habitat have now put us in a high positive/high negative situation.I believe it is our right to the deer to fix this problem we caused by any means.I also believe this should be a reasoning factor in bringing Sunday hunting to Va.Not only will it provide more oppurtunities for hunters who rarely find time to enjoy Va outdoors but I believe we could also reduce overcrowding the woods on Saturdays reducing the risk of accidents etc.I believe this issue has lacked the strong organized leadership needed for success. If you are interested in hearing more on the issues I have just spoke of I would welcome any thoughts or ideas on how we could bring sunday hunting to Va.Please take some time to check out my group on facebook keyword Lets bring sunday hunting to Va.Thank you for your time and I looked forward to hearing from my fellow Va deer hunters
Think about human population
I do not know why you are so enthusiastic about killing those harmless deer and Coyotes. It seems that you are too concerned about their increasing population but I think we should divert our attention in some other area. World is not for the human beings who are shamelessly occupying almost 90% of the entire habitable place in the world and keep longing for more.

sunday hunting
You buy a license to hunt for an entire year than why not hunt the entire week? Not allowing me to hunt on Sunday feels like someone is trying to push there religion off on me, if you want to go to church on Sunday then go, but I want to do something different.
Let's Hunt on Sunday!!!
What about the guy who works on Saturday, or the guy who has kids and he has events he wants to attend on Saturday… He would have the opportunity to hunt if Sunday’s were available… Or what about the weather, if Sunday looks better he could just hunt on Sunday instead of having to sit in the rain on Saturday; because he knows this is the only day he can go... LET’S HUNT ON SUNDAY!!!Hunting for food
If no one is hungry then why is there a Hunters For Hungry program?
sunday hunting for food!
It seems ridiculous to me that I can go nuts shopping at Walmart and every other place in creation in this consumer driven place, but I can't go out back of my home and shoot a deer that I wouldn't shoot unless I wanted to eat it. To be allowed to shop on Sunday, but be prevented from hunting, seems arbitrary and biased and basically hard to get my head around.
btw ....
I'm ok with full lift of Sunday hunting , I'm making the suggestion I did as a comprimise and to ease into the idea, so that Zealots like yourself can stop using the " Because it's the only day of the week I feel safe" crap.
I'm still waiting on some statistics , to the number of "Hunting" related deaths/fatalities for innocent bystanders on a Saturday ( someone shooting themselves in the foot or falling out of a tree stand doesn't count. )
So we can see just how dangerous it would be for a Sunday.
Concerned Citizen
Wow , I had to create an account here just to bite on the nonsense , obviously childish responses from Concerned Citizen.
You like wearing your seatbelt ?
Yes but It is only required when driving on PUBLIC roads. Driving around in my land and back yard a seatbelt is not required
You like having to purchase insurance for your vehicle vrs. paying out the butt for operating a motor vehicle w/o it?
Yes , but again this is only if driven on a public road. I don't need any insurane on my farm truck that never leaves my land does it ?
You like not hunting until the the sason opens and within a time frame set by the government ON YOUR OWN LAND? Get used to IT old man. We will have rules and you will abide by them or ELSE!
No I don't like it. But I can see some reasons for concern of aminal population and the result of messing with the eco system.... You have yet to show any effects or "concerns" about the eco system and the number of animals in wildlife
No, I have lost nothing.
Like it or leave it.
You will abide by the rules or else!
You have lost not only your freedom , but also respect from any person who might have given your argument half a chance if you had snown any thinking rational , and hadn't gotten into your childish teenage banter.
We will abide by the rules , until we can change them. Again , 43 states tell no lies.
So for clarification and somethings for you to think about.
I would support :
Lifting of hunting bans for PRIVATE LANDS only on Sundays with permition from the land owner.
You can keep your national parks , Wildlife preserves , church lands , Parking lots , Highways , public access land , and your own private lands ...
But stop telling me not to hunt my own lands because it's " Sunday " and I might have hikers that never felt the need to ask my permision to hike , take picture or relic hunt on my land. Don't tell me that I can't ask a local hunter to PLEASE hunt my lands to rid them of the varmints and pests that continue to ruin my crop and my wildlife that I enjoy.
You See , hunters are WAY more contiencious(sp) of getting permission before tresspassing because we live by a different set of ethics. And you OBVIOUSLY are not a hunter 6 days a week as you previously stated. It's OBVIOUS in your demeaner , and attitude. IF you think you hunt then you are the "Killer" that you claim some to be, because you don't understand the responsibility , the oneness with nature , and the core roots of the HUMAN existance of hunting for the family.
I see your Refferendum , and Raise you 10000 signatures. I dare you to come to Southwest Virginia and claim that you are the majority. We live and die by the woods out in these parts kid.
NO TO SUNDAY HUNTING
Folks, back in the day when people lived off the land, I would agree with opening Sunday to hunting. But, let's be real here. No one is starving, no one needs to hunt to feed a family and just because your son or daughter decides that they would rather play soccer on Saturday instead of hunting, there is no reason to allow Sunday hunting.
Shooting Preserves
I know you wished you had not brought "hunting preserves" into your argument. If you knew so much about them, why did it backfire on ya?
I will enjoy my life on Sundays as well. NO SUNDAY HUNTING
This is about Sunday
This is about Sunday hunting not preserves which I know more than you want to admitt. Enjoy your cloistered life.
Wrong again now it is name
Wrong again now it is name calling and baselass accusation time. Have hunted in over 15 states since I was 11 much of it in states that have Sunday Hunting. I am well pass the age of 50 so what is your knowledge obtained from? Talking and working with PETA and HSUS? I admit to nothing unless I have written or stated it.
Education
Learn something about hunting preserves!
You should have admited it
You should have admited it and "saved face." You know NOTHING about hunting preserves.
I doubt if you even hunt.
I am tired of talking to a
I am tired of talking to a wall.
To an extinct.
The deer all other wild non-migrating game belong to the Commonwelath of Virginia and are regulated and protected by the VDGIF.
Next question?
BTW, that answer should help you with the riddle.
Are the deer in the woods
Are the deer in the woods owned by VDGIF?
Are the birds being shot at
Are the birds being shot at /in a hunting preserve, as defined by the VDGIF, owned by the state?
No it did not.
No it did not.
"If I have a "deer"
"If I have a "deer" preserve do I then own the deer in the preserve and then can I shoot on Sunday by the YOUR definition?"
Then you can answer your on question.
tsptech
yes
Do you KNOW ANYTHING about
Do you KNOW ANYTHING about shooting preserves?
So now you get to determine
So now you get to determine what is hunting and what is not? Who said anyting about not following the rules? If I have a "deer" preserve do I then own the deer in the preserve and then can I shoot on Sunday by the YOUR definition? Seems like I could and then be perfectly legal with no thoughts of your OR ELSE because I now own the deer. I am just trying to understand your interpretations of the situation? Something is very confusing in your way of doing things.
"Or else" was pay the price
"Or else" was pay the price for not following the rules.
I know the VDGIF's definition of hunting very well.
I SAID, that I did not call it hunting and I will never call it hunting.
You don't own the deer like the preserves own the birds. Therefore, the state has to tell you when you can and cannot legally hunt them.
Definition
Better look up the Virginia definition for hunting. I think you will be suprised because what they are doing is hunting no matter how they call it. Shooting game is hunting no doubt about it. Otherwise let me "shoot" for deer on Sunday just like they "shoot" for birds.
By the way what did you mean by "Or Else" in your previous posts? Please expand for those of us who are so uninformed.
Again where do we go for to sign the "referendum"?
Shooting birds in a preserve
Shooting birds in a preserve is NOT hunting. It's shooting.
The reason this type of shooting is allowed on Sunday is because the birds shot do not belong to the Commonwealth.
I only name call when it's done to me first.
I never make threats. They are useles. Sorry you took it that way.
Cornered? HA! I and several thousand others are in the center of the ring and far from being cornered.
point proved
keep proving my point. Keep making the threats and name calling as they only prove the obvious that you stoop to the lowest level when cornered.
Sunday hunting will COME not tomorrow but it will come. Get ready .
It is already permissable to hunt Sundays on private shooting preserves. So if you have money and influence you can do it. Talk about discrimmination.
Many are now looking to see what they have to do to become a "PRIVATE PRESERVE". Oh yes it is coming.
Tech
Tech, just remember, I didn't make the the Sunday Hunting "Rule," I am just in the majority.
You like wearing your
You like wearing your seatbelt ? You like having to purchase insurance for your vehicle vrs. paying out the butt for operating a motor vehicle w/o it? You like not hunting until the the sason opens and within a time frame set by the government ON YOUR OWN LAND? Get used to IT old man. We will have rules and you will abide by them or ELSE!
No, I have lost nothing. You cannot and will not for many years to come, hunt legally on Sunday in this GREAT COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA.
Like it or leave it.
You will abide by the rules or else!
I got your pasty little man. Bring it on.
Concerned citizen
Since when do you get the autority to tell people what to do on their own land. You are a sactamonious, overbearing person who has no right to tell peopel what or how to do things on thier own property. This is why you will lose your referendum. How dare you think you can tell people wher to live or behave. It is the same with all zealots who think their way is the only way. Get a grip on reality as you obviously think that you can tell the world what to do. People like you make all the rest of us who want to work together sick. Go back to your own land and take care of it as someone may try to pick a flower on it or something. I fully agree with the term PATSY as you lost this agrument on ever web site you have been own when you started to tell people how to live right LUNGSHOT
Why don't you move to Russia
Why don't you move to Russia P^&&Y? I think you will be enlightened.
Go into your woods and hunt with a camera instead of a weapon. Prove you are a real man! Real men don't need weapons to enjoy the woods and its creatures. You suck!
stupid
The reason people go hunting is to eat the deer and you can't eat film.Your a moron
quick question
didn't you say you hunt?
So Wednesday is My SUNDAY
So lets see? I currently live in Russia..... I mean Virginia. I have 450 acres that I pay for Monday through Friday. I get to enjoy after work and all day on Saturday. That is great except the soccer games, mowing the lawn, riding lessons, and many other things WE all have to do. What is the reason? Are we Puritons? The argument of feeling safe on Sunday is absurd. Stay out of a shooting lane and don't wear a deer suit and I think you will be fine. As for it helping keep un wanted or ILLEAGAL hunters off of your property 1 day a week, I call YOU a P@#$Y. Grow some BALLS and keep them off your land yourself P@#$Y!!!!!!!!!!! My Deer are Seventh Day Adventist they attend the service on Saturday.
Referendum
It is needed becauseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, lifting the ban and allowing Sunday Hunting affects more than just hunters. It affects bird watchers, horse riders, relic hunters, and wildlife lovers etc.
So, those mentioned above should have a say in the matter.
I don't know why a
I don't know why a referendum is even needed. A referendum wasn't used when the blue law was originally put in place.
Sunday hunting approved and working in 43 states
Your way
Just as I thought do it your way to try and influence the outcome. What kind of referendum is "Are you in favor of lifting the current hunting ban on Sunday's in Virginia" sound more like a survey to me. Why not "Remove the current ban on hunting in Virginia in Sunday.' not a question on a survey. There is a difference.
Give me Liberty or give me Death!
It is time we have the freedom of choice to hunt on Sunday if we do so choose. It should be left to the individual!
We are going to do it our
We are going to do it our way. Thanks for your suggestion.
The question will be: "Are you in favor of lifting the current hunting ban on Sunday's in Virginia?"
regferendum
Depends on how it is written. A straight forward short reforendum to "Remove the sunday hunting ban" should do it. Why not just distribute it and get it started? why wait to see what others do? It should either stand on its own merit or die as you say.
Referendum
We will not have the petitions distributed until the General Assembly begins this session. We will monitor the floor traffic of any bills that are submitted concerning the ban. If that traffic gains any momentum, then we will begin the distribution.
Thanks for you question.
I hope I can count on you to sign it when and if it is distributed.
Referendum
Concerned Citizen, where do we go to sign the petition for this referendum that you asked for on 9/10 and twice on 9/11. Many of us are waiting for you to tell us when and where as you seemed so positive it will fail. Please keep us informed on your efforts to have this placed on the next available ballot. I quote you on the request to put up or shut up "I am and about 1000 other hunters are putting up" . We quietly await the results of your effort. Please keep us informed.
time to pull together
It's that time.
Life is what you make it.
Life is what you make it. Don't ask the government to make "it" for you at the expense of others.
"Life is what you make it.
"Life is what you make it. Don't ask the government to make "it" for you at the expense of others."
Exactly and this is why we are asking the government to right a wrong they made. In checking the history of Virginia hunting has been legal much longer on Sunday than the recent 100 or so years it was made illegal.
The Mesozoic Era was the time from 248 million to 65 million years ago. During the Mesozoic, the Earth was very different than it is now. The climate was warmer, the seasons were very mild, the sea level was higher, and there was no polar ice. Even the shape of the continents on Earth was different; the continents were jammed together at the beginning of the Mesozoic Era, forming the supercontinent of Pangaea, but would start breaking apart toward the middle of the Mesozoic Era. During the second period was the Jurassic period (208-146 million years ago), in which the dinosaurs began to flourish. Giant sauropods appeared along with many other dinosaurs. Until recently, people simply knew that dinosaurs went extinct — their fossils were found throughout the Mesozoic era, but were not located in the rock layers (strata) of the Cenozoic era. So, we knew that dinosaurs went extinct some 64-66 million years ago, but that was all. Scientists say a new discovery means dinosaurs are not all extinct. An international team of scientists believes two Chinese fossils of feathered dinosaurs -- animals with down-covered bodies, strong legs and stubby arms -- are the strongest evidence yet that birds evolved from dinosaurs."This shows that dinosaurs are not all extinct, but are well-represented by 10,000 species of birds," paleontologist Philip Currie said Tuesday
Scientists at the American Museum of Natural History have discovered a fossil in New Mexico that looks like a six-foot-long, two-legged dinosaur along the lines of a tyrannosaur or a velociraptor. But it is actually an ancient relative of today's alligators and crocodiles.
My point being: Why did some dinosaurs go extinct while other evolved into new species?
Answer: Adaptability, ability and willingness to change.
We as hunters have to ask ourselves the same question. Are we willing to change, to adapt to new things or are we willing to go extinct leaving our heritage to no one except the annuals of time?
Concerned Citizen Freedom of
Concerned Citizen Freedom of choice means you have the freedom of choice to stay home and not hunt on Sunday while we are out there hunting. Freedom of Choice means a land owner has the freedom of choice to allow or not allow hunting on his property on Sunday. Freedom of choice means a parent can spend quality time hunting with their children on Sunday and not make their children sacrifice sports to spend time with their family.
Jp, should you have "freedom
Jp, should you have "freedom of choice" to drive 70 mph in a 55 mph zone? Drive w/o wearing your seatbelt? Not pay taxes?
Ya see, you already have choices. You can chooe to go watch a soccer game on Sat. or hunt. Tha'ts an example of having a choice.
Don't ruin Sunday for me and thousands of others because you want to watch soccer on Sat. and legally hunt on Sunday.
Its all about freedom of
Its all about freedom of choice. And everyone should be able to choose if they want to hunt on Sunday or not. Just because a person doesn't want to hunt on Sunday shouldn't mean that I am not allowed to hunt on Sunday. I can do anything else on Sunday except hunt. This is discrimination. The blue law needs to be done away with. It is now time for SUNDAY HUNTING IN VIRGINIA!
