Highway backup during traffic hours in Northern VA

The car accidents on major highway during morning and evening rush hours cause delay to a lot of people. That is the time wasted because of the direct result of a few persons unattentive driving. I propose that we increase the demerit points deducted for causing the accidents to six points and increasing the fines to those ticketed while being distracted. I am seeing more and more people drinking coffee, reading news paper and talking on the cell phones with out hands free devices. Just an idea.

Adding Feedback Function to this Website

It seems to me that some feedback from the Site would be valuable, as I have no idea when someone comments on a piece I have submitted and the person also wants an answer to a point I have raised.

I might not look at the Site for weeks, so there can be a long delay.

Bring Textbooks into the 21st century

The State Department of Education and the Department of Technology should collaborate and encourage vendors to offer textbooks for K-12 in 21st century formats.  Having students carry heavy books home each night is unnecessary.  One set of classroom books plus a few spares for those students without internet at home would suffice, saving the state and localities millions of dollars in textbook acquisition.  Plus, on-line content can be updated so that facts don't become obsolete.  Our instructional content is often held hostage to the large textbook companies who control

Recreate Transportation Authority

Virginia needs to resurrect the Transportation Authorities. They were struck down because they were considered unelected taxing bodies and therefore unconstitutional. Therefore, remake them as one of the following:

Raise Gas Tax

It may be too late know but if VA were to raise the gas tax slowly as gas prices continue to fall, we could increase revenue. It should only be raised by a fraction of the price decrease. For example, if the state average price falls 10 cents in a week, increase the gas tax by 5 cents. Residents would still see prices fall AND we would still recieve tax revenues. This money should be directly earmarked to benefit the city/county that it is collected in. For regions (i.e Hampton Roads, Northern VA, Richmond Area, etc), however, the money should benefit the region as a whole.

UVa Law

I went to the University of Virginia Lawschool.  It's been slipping in the rankings.  Does anyone have thoughts as to why this is?

Thanks,

The solution for the Economic Crisis

The way to end this economic crisis in the United States is not to let our "leaders" bail out this and that company or bank, (see how well it's working?) When all they are going to do is to save that money for bonuses.  What a waste.  If washington is serious about it, why not send a stimulus check to those who deserve them of $500, 000 or $1,000,000.  It would be cheaper than the 700 billion they are wasting now, people would have money to pay off bills and mortages and some left to stimulate the rest of the economy.   Putting money in banks to encourage

Purchase DMV Demerit Points

The Department of Motor Vehicles assigns Demerit Points when you commit a traffic violation. From the DMV Website: "Different violations carry different point assignments, depending on the seriousness of the offense. For example, you will receive three demerit points if you make an improper U-turn. However, you will receive six demerit points if you speed 20 miles per hour or more above the posted speed limit. Demerit points remain valid two years from the date you commit an offense."

State Tourism and Miscellaneous Programs Marketing

This is a multi-benefit program.  Form a cooperative partnership with the Marketing departments of EVERY state funded college and university (including community colleges) to formulate and submit competing marketing plans for state tourism and other programs (with the state government communicating specifications to each school).  Each school's Marketing department may choose to work on this program as an end of semester project.  The winning school(s) marketing program will result in formal recognition of efforts by award of grants to that specific department and possibly a

Fraud Waste and Abuse Hotline and State Vehicles

Code every state vehicle with a specific alpha-numeric sequence and clearly post a fraud waste and abuse hotline on the back of the vehicle in bold letters.  This will discourage abuse of government authority/vehicles.  Government employees should be required to sign out vehicles, log mileage upon check-out and return, fuel level upon check-out and return, and any potential problems with the vehicle.  This will ensure that vehicles are tightly controlled by a centralized agency and maintenance is up to date and performed properly and efficiently.  Responsibility and acco
