This question comes from something that the ACLU has posted, the formation of "Constitution Free Zones" (Link). According to the map half of Virginia will fall under Federal control - will the State be split, half living under the Constitution of the United States the other half subjects of imperial rule ?

At State rest areas and private truck stops, where trucks stop and rest, there is always at least 1, 2, or 3 or more trucks RUNNING while the truck driver sleeps or rest. In order to provide heat in the Winter while the trucker(s) sleep or air conditioning in the Summer, the truck has to RUN the engine to provide power. This means that trucks are burning up diesel, driving up demand for diesel and high costs, while also polluting hte air, more than nnecessary. (5 votes) |

Introduction The Commonwealth of Virginia has on its books a program that seems at first glance to offer tax relief for Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons. It's a noble idea, but needs basic changes to make it workable for people who really need the tax relief it seems to offer. (7 votes) |

Many states only require motor vehicles to use a single license plate to operate on public streets. Using two license plates doesn’t seem to be an issue of either public safety or police identification in these states. Therefore, why can’t Virginia reduce its cost of license plates by 50% by only requiring a single vehicle license plate? (10 votes) |

In the current budget environment, state employees are not receiving cost of living adjustments to offset the impacts of inflation. Hold state contracts to the same standard that we are holding employees. In other words, For multi-year contracts that allow cost escalations (these escalations are usually based on the percentage change in the applicable Consumer Price Index), don't increase the contract price. This will save the Commonwealth money in the short term which is the immediate need. (8 votes) |

This would also be beneficial to seniors who are not disabled, but have back and knee problems and cannot stand for long periods. (9 votes) |

As a resident of Northern Virginia, I notice an increasing number of cars with Maryland or DC plates in local driveways, in the parking lots of local townhouses and apartment complexes, and at the Metro parking lots. It seems to me that these are folks who are skipping out in paying their fair share of the personal property tax on vehicles. Many of these cars are the exprensive makes. In this time of contrained state budgets, I suggest either a state employee or a county employee in a public service car (i.e. (6 votes) |

While I listen on the radio about Virginia's Budget cuts I sat in traffic at the HRBT for over 2 hours last night. I did not make it through the tunnel until nearly 12:30 AM. The whole backup was due to VDOT cleaning the tunnel. If we are in such difficult times, why are we cleaning the tunnel. I could see cleaning the road surface to eliminate oil deposits, but the ceiling? I got an email from my university saying that due to the state budget cuts, an annual geology/earth sciences trip has been canceled. Let me get this straight? We have to cut education so our tunnels can be shiny? (4 votes) |
