Raising the Gasoline Tax, especially when we saw $4 gas this summer and the economy is bad, is admittedly a difficult sell to the populus. But this is not because it doesn't make sense--it is because our politicians lack the fortitude to educate the general public on the necessity of this and to portray to the public that the funds can be trusted to be collected and used by the government efficiently. However, raising the gas tax is the only straightforward method to raise the dollars needed for infrastructure projects--the same projects that the people who drive the most (and t 4.2 Average: 4.2 (5 votes) |

Virginia needs to resurrect the Transportation Authorities. They were struck down because they were considered unelected taxing bodies and therefore unconstitutional. Therefore, remake them as one of the following: 2.4 Average: 2.4 (5 votes) |

This is a multi-benefit program. Form a cooperative partnership with the Marketing departments of EVERY state funded college and university (including community colleges) to formulate and submit competing marketing plans for state tourism and other programs (with the state government communicating specifications to each school). Each school's Marketing department may choose to work on this program as an end of semester project. The winning school(s) marketing program will result in formal recognition of efforts by award of grants to that specific department and possibly a 3.666665 Average: 3.7 (3 votes) |

The state is losing millions of dollars in fuel tax revenue because of exemptions granted to special interest groups. We don't exempt truckers from fuel taxes. Why do we exempt farmers. Farmers are one the biggest polluters in Chesapeake Bay watershed. Commercial and recreation watermen are also contribute to the problem, yet all are exempt from having to pay for fuel taxes. Correction. Commercial and recreational watermen are eligible to apply for refunds. DMV maintains a staff to process these refunds. 3 Average: 3 (11 votes) |

I have developed an idea/plan that would greatly benefit the Environment, US Citizens, Consumers, Retailers, Merchants, Manufacturers, and of course our Government including its many branches across the nation. I would like to see Virginia as the pace setter for this. I could not find a reward or incentive program for the average citizen within this category to introduce my idea to the government. 1 Average: 1 (2 votes) |

In the past year the Virginia General Assembly has been stalemate in trying to figure out how to raise funds to build roads, bridges, etc. It's like playing chess with yourself and wondering why the game is a draw every time. Can I offer a few suggestions? 1.) Raise the excise tax on cigarettes. Curently, Virginia ranks 47th with ONLY a .30 cents tax per pack of smokes. Compare that to New Jersey that pays $2.58 excise tax per pack - the highest in the country. Why not raise our tax .20 - .30 cents? Cha-Ching!!! 2.842105 Average: 2.8 (19 votes) |
