Christmas and New Year's Day are both on Thursday this year.  Those 2 days should be the only paid time off for the state's employees.  Do not give the 2 Fridays as paid time off.  If an employee wants to take Friday off, then they can use vacation time.

This is a fiscally responsible approach to use my tax dollars.

The State needs to take advantage of economic opportunities. Up until the Wilder Administration, the State funded (general funds) the Governor's Cup Fishing Tournament.  This program was eliminated due to budget cuts.  In 1991-92, the General Assembly created the Recreational Fishing License.

The year that President Bush was elected into office, the year 2000 the Virginia State Bar changed from addressing "strategy" with Code of Professional Responsibility to avoiding "strategy" with Professional Guidelines and Rules of Professional Conduct.

Our incarceration rate is absurd and extremely expensive, yet no politicians seem like they want to talk about it.  Senator Webb had the courage to ask the Joint Economic Committee to meet on it. Our state politicians should have the courage take up this issue as well and start looking for solutions to the problem.  After all drug should be a state issue.

With the price of gas going up and the government pushing the car pool or using mass transit. I think that adding and improving the bike trails would be a great investment. What's 3 feet on the side of the road to make it safe for a biker.

Why does the Department of Corrections need assistant wardens at each facility? If this position was done away with then the state could save money from the salary that was paid ( @ $60K yr.), the state vehicle that they drove and the housing allowance paid to them ( $5,400 a yr.) . This decision could be based on the security level of each institution. Level 1,2,and 3 institutions could do away with their assistant wardens and let the security area be handled by the chief of security, programs handled by the treatment supervisor and finances by the accountant.

The way to end this economic crisis in the United States is not to let our "leaders" bail out this and that company or bank, (see how well it's working?) When all they are going to do is to save that money for bonuses.  What a waste.  If washington is serious about it, why not send a stimulus check to those who deserve them of $500, 000 or $1,000,000.  It would be cheaper than the 700 billion they are wasting now, people would have money to pay off bills and mortages and some left to stimulate the rest of the economy.   Putting money in banks to encourage

There are many legitimate times that persons receiving services in the State have rights problems. That is true, but also, with this fairly new Organization reporting only to the Governor (?) currently, abuses also occur where families, Guardians, or others pick up a phone and call VOPA before attempting to work things out with Social Workers, Directors, and other persons dealing with their loved ones daily in State facilities.

Gov. Kaine, Thanks for soliciting our ideas on how to improve government performance! It's about time someone cared. Perception is everything. Explain your position on the subjects below and how you plan to implement that position. Use simple plain English, without weasel words. We need to know how government's performance, or lack thereof, will affect us.
